Copy of Designed and made in Maine

Gray Fox Co. was started in 2017 by Gabby Doane, who lives in Cape Elizabeth, Maine with her husband Wes and 2 kids - Gus and Eloise. Our brand consists of a handmade collection of simple, gender neutral, soft soled shoes for babies and toddlers.

All of our products are handmade in Maine using exceptionally soft, all natural vegetable tanned leather.  Our goal from the beginning has been to be as sustainable as possible and we continue to evolve and learn as we grow to make as positive an impact as we can—environmentally, ethically, and in our local community.

We source the most earth friendly and sustainable materials possible - from product to packaging. We do this not only because we care deeply about our impact on the environment but also because we want our shoes to be safe for the children who wear them, play with them, and likely chew on them.

1 percent for the planet environmental nonprofit

We are a proud member of 1% for the Planet, an organization we joined at the beginning of 2020, pledging to give 1% of every sale directly to environmental nonprofits.

OUR SHOES
Our shoes are especially designed for the developing foot with soft and flexible leather soles that allow feet to feel the surface of the ground and promote the development of muscle strength as babies and toddlers learn to walk and explore their environments.

 SOURCING - OUR LEATHER

The leather we use is certified by IVN, I prominent German institute as a natural textile. We have spent years searching for the most eco friendly and sustainable leather available. Our shoes are made from leather that has been vegetable tanned using purely raw materials from nature and the different colors are achieved through a dye process that is free of heavy metals. Because the leather we use is created using natural processes, our shoes will develop a natural patina through light, time and touch, and the colors can become brighter or darker over time.

Because the vegetable tanning process avoids any chemical additives which deprive a leather of its natural character you will notice that there may be authentic natural marks and there may also be slight variations in color and texture, making each pair of shoes one of a kind.

The leather we source is considered a biodegradable, natural textile. If it were to be placed in a landfill, it would decompose into organic matter within 3-4 years.
